Milham Avenue Pedestrian Bridge

Description

2001 APWA National Project of the Year recipient.  The Bridge is a part of the very popular Portage Creek Bicentennial Park Trail system which provides over 3.5 miles of 12-foot wide paved trail.  The pre-engineered steel structure sits high above the roadway, on precast concrete masonry retaining wall embankments flanked by attractive serpentine landscaped areas.  The retaining walls step back, creating landscaping tiers blending them into the natural environment of the trail setting.  More than 500 trees, various decorative plantings, shrubs, and native grasses were planted to soften the appearance of the walls.  The design incorporates color and design features, which compliment the adjacent office buildings on Milham Avenue.
