Originally built as Jacobson’s Department Store, the building was retrofitted to become a performing arts center highlighting theatre, dance, music and video production. Spaces for a restaurant and gift store were included in the program, making this a venue for pre- and post-performance outings. The adaptive reuse of the structure at such an important time in the area’s redevelopment breathed new life in the Kalamazoo Mall and allowed the building to remain a cornerstone of downtown life.
