Located on a major avenue leading into the city’s central business district, this former ophthalmic clinic is a contemporary facility that fits comfortably in the older neighborhood. By blending forms, materials, and symbolism, it maintains the neighborhood’s residential character through the use of clapboard siding and a series of gabled roofs. To further preserve this environment, parking is beneath the building, hidden from view along the street frontage. In front, a circular opening that symbolizes an eye helps to establish the building’s identity and reinforces its distinctive character. The interior includes natural wood and indirect lighting for patient comfort.
