Paris Cleaners is known as the purple curved building. The one of a kind building has become an icon of Kalamazoo businesses. The dry cleaning company began in 1903 and moved to its prominent location at the intersection of Westnedge and Crosstown Parkway in 1956. It is designed in the Art Deco style which sought to break away from the Victorian and classical styles common to the past culture and represent the machine age. Art Deco is represented in this building by the glass block windows, curvilinear forms and metal which allows the fascia to be curved – streamlined like automation toward which the 1950s industries were moving.
