Designed in the ‘atmospheric style’, the 1569-seat theatre resembles a Spanish courtyard full of statues and false facades. Its dark blue ceiling is enhanced by a cloud machine and twinkling electric stars that elicit an outdoor feel. The lobby furniture, colors, tile and metal work continue the Mediterranean feel. The exterior tapestry patterned buff colored brick is highlighted by ornate terracotta. The 1964 marquee replaced the original vertical marquee that rose more than two stories over the corner of Burdick and Lovell on the downtown Kalamazoo Mall. The theatre was originally home to the silent-movies and vaudeville performers.
