Owned and operated by the Kalamazoo Valley Community College, this four-level, 60,000 sqft museum serves the community through interactive exhibits. It is located on the northwest corner of the KVCC Arcadia Campus and was integral to the late-1980s redevelopment initiative of Arcadia Creek. The building is set back from Rose Street and highlighted with landscaping to create a forecourt. The materials of granite, limestone, and lead-coated copper were chosen to help the building blend with the surroundings. The variations in interior lighting and multiple ceiling levels are in contrast to other museums, with the intent of eliminating a sterile or institutional feel.
